    Abstract :

    - In hilly areas, the sloping ground gave rise to a need of step back buildings. After many construction failures of mud, brickmasonry, stone masonry, the need a RCC buildings was seen. The lesser availability of flat ground in hilly areas is the major cause for stepback buildings. In urban areas, the scarcity of land gave rise to a new idea of step back buildings. The prominence of this lied in the ventilationit provides in a land scarcity urban area. Most of the hilly areas are prone to earthquakes, landslides and erosion of ground level soil whichis a major problem for construction of buildings. A scarcity of plain ground in hilly area leads to the construction step back buildings. Thistype of buildings will be constructed on the sloped surface of the ground, the top level in the building will be plain but at the bottom thecolumns will have different height or the numbers of storey along the building will be different. In the present study behaviour of RC verticalsetback buildings located on sloping grounds has been studied.
