    Abstract :

In the support of all rotating elements in industrial components nowadays, journal bearings are the widely used. They have been best suited for this application because of their low frictional characteristics. In journal bearing the load is sustained by the oil film, which creates the friction force. The magnitude of this force is very less as compared to the force developed in case of metal to metal contact. While designing the journal bearing, researchers are working for the optimum design of journal bearing to generate low frictional heat. In this paper, journal bearing model has been developed to calculate the effect of design parameters and their effect on frictional power. Optimized values of design parameters have been used and checked for the specific combination of load and frictional power. This study also gives the designed value of the equivalent temperature of the oil film. The results are then validated with the analytical solution obtained from the fundamental Reynolds equation.
